Character design for Sedna, the Inuit Mother Goddess of the Sea, ruler of Adlivun, the Inuit underworld.
Design for the outside of Sedna's underwater lair, a constantly growing castle of icy spikes which encapsulates the souls she has trapped, guarded by an eel-like sea monster who uses the souls as his eyes. Sedna resides inside the dark giant sphere.
View of the smaller above-water section of Sedna's castle and the thin icy bridge leading to it – with a view to the underwater portion of the castle.
Inside Sedna's lair.
Character designs for a shrewd alien warlord, based on a collaborative student-written story.
First sketches for an alternative design for Grendel. The idea was for him to look vaguely frog-like and not terribly intimidating – until he opens his zipper-like mouth, revealing that his whole body is one large, cavernous hole.
Instead of being a broad-shouldered Viking, I wanted Beowulf to be whip-thin and lightning fast, able to dart around nimbly (with his magnificent hair flowing) to defeat the monsters. Medium: Colored pencil.
Character design for Grendel's Mother. You can see where he gets his charm from.
Design for Beowulf's aging father, King Hrothgar.
Character design for a man-eating island, which lures lost ships with the promise of land, and then picks them off of its back with its many hidden tentacles.
Design for a "fairy."
Design for a futuristic man with a Napoleon complex.
